Hoffman’s line began under the label Circle by Mara Hoffman. The Circle label, which ran from 2000-2005, was a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces, each one hand-dyed and batiked by Mara Hoffman herself. Instead of traditional runway shows, Hoffman presented these collections as loosely staged performances, transforming off-beat spaces, featuring live musicians and using dancers as well as models.

In 2005, Circle simply became Mara Hoffman. It was at this point where Hoffman’s extraordinary prints were born. Always designed by Mara Hoffman and her creative partner at the time, Klee VanSchoonhoven, these bold, unique prints have been a defining progression of the collection. At this stage, the company began to grow rapidly, gaining over 200 accounts worldwide.

In 2008, Hoffmann launched her first swim collection, which included playful bikinis, sexy one-pieced and dashiki cover-ups, all in typical Hoffman’s signature prints and colors. 2008 also marked Hoffman’s first Bryant Park runway show for Mercedes Benz. And in July 2009 Hoffman showed her swim collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami.

Mara Hoffman and her team create two ready-to-wear collections and two swimwear collections per year, drawing inspiration from Hoffman’s personal affinity towards world travel, nature, mythology, and magic.

Welcome to el CIRCO MÁGICO: an eccentric dream world where colors are vibrant, inspiration is abundant, and imagination becomes a reality. Inspiration for the Resort Swim `15 Collection stems from the beautiful people, culture, colors, textiles and landscape of Guatemala, all of which Mara fell in love with during a recent trip to the rainbow land.

Searching for a suitable shoot location that would measure up to the diversity of Guatemala wasn’t easy. Luckily, where one rainbow road ends another begins. Enter this psychedelic, next level, 16-acre art home in the backwoods of Cottekill, NY, the work of owners and artists Kat O’Sullivan and Mason Brown, that embodies the spirit that Mara had fallen so in love with in Guatemala.

This “fun house” of color, humor and spirituality was the perfect setting for Mara’s circus-themed CIRCO MÁGICO shoot. The house was complete with two vibrantly hand-painted school buses with vivid renderings of octopi, eyes, morphs of Wonder Woman and the Venus Di Milo,  and written phrases such as “stay hungry, stay foolish.”

If we couldn’t fly to the rainbow people in Guatemala, at least we could drive to them in Woodstock… Simply put, “Rainbows find other Rainbows.”
